CMS Library Scholastic Bookfair:

Netbook Cart Checkout:

Carts with 30 Netbooks are available for checkout from the CMS Library Media Center before 8 a.m. each day.

Overdue Slips will continue to be sent through homeroom teachers on Tuesdays and Thursdays of each week.

CMS Library Media Center's After-School Extended Hours has begun. We will stay open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m....

Young Adult Section: Because the novels are getting grittier, and in some ways, more controversial...we want all students who want to read in this section to have a signed note from their parents.

Our Hours of Operation: Monday and Friday, 7:50 a.m. until 3:15 p.m.; Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, until 5 p.m. Closed on school holidays.

...Remember to sign in when you come with a pass to our Library Media Center.
...No food or drinks allowed, unless you have permission.
...Please be courteous and respectful towards others.
...No social-networking sites are allowed; no music video sites or any site deemed controversial in any way. Please stay on bookmarked approved sites only during the school day.
...You must have your library card to check out any materials.
...If you have an overdue book, it must be returned to have your privileges restored.

A library is a portal for time travelers. In it you slip into other dimensions, whether online or in the pages of a book; a time and space continuum governed only by the imagination. It is our sincere hope to open the doors to our global information society and give students here at Cleveland Middle School the interest and tools to navigate its ever-changing venues with confidence, understanding and pleasure.

Our Library Policy: Students may check out up to three items for two weeks. We do not charge late fines, but encourage the responsible use of library materials and ask only that students pay full replacement cost for lost books, CDs, or magazines.

Have you ever wondered what happened to Sherlock Holmes after he left the foggy streets of Victorian London? Well, the game's afoot in this first book of a series of eight by Laurie King. Sherlock Holmes, the famed detective, comes out of semi-retirement, putting aside one of his passions for keeping bees, and takes up another, solving crimes. However, his partner in crime is no longer the affable, big-hearted, Dr. Watson. A young orphaned woman, Mary Russell, is introduced. She becomes this clever man's equal. The action is stimulating and provocative. A pleasure to read, especially in the depths of winter.

Book Travelers 2011-2012

At the start of this academic year, in August of 2011, the Cleveland Middle School Library Media Center challenged the entire student body to become “Book Travelers”. This reading incentive program was optional and to date we have had over 149 blogs on our blogsite of books students have read and enjoyed.

Our tracking map of the world is online. Students were asked to read books of their own choosing and received 2 book miles per page and a book prize whenever they reached a new continent.

We are proud to announce this year’s winners of our 2011-2012 Book Travelers medals. All three of our winners have read voraciously and for the first time all three have made it at least one time around the world with their reading book miles!

  • Roshan, in Mrs. Riggins’ homeroom made it from Cleveland, Tennessee all the way around the world earning a grand total of: 27,473 book miles!

  • Megan, in Mrs. Burn’s homeroom has also made it all the way around the world! She left Cleveland, Tennessee, landed in Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, South America and returned to Cleveland only to began her journey again, having earned: 28,620 book miles!

  • Mark, in Mr. Miles’ homeroom has made it all the way around the world twice, and is well into his third trip! He has traveled an impressive 56,093 book miles! That means Mark has read over 28,000 pages! The highest earner since the beginning of this reading incentive program seven years ago!
